The concept note
At FCDS, we are committed to identifying villages with insufficient greenery and poor environmental conditions, including areas affected by drought. We work to form village forest committees or strengthen existing village-level committees and youth clubs, fostering accountability for maintaining the village’s greenery.
Various stages of our interventions
- Creating Awareness: We raise awareness about the environment and the importance of having an ample number of green trees in the village.
- Forming/Strengthening Committees: We establish or enhance village-level committees, empowering them to take charge of environmental initiatives.
- Mapping Green Trees: We conduct comprehensive mapping, comparing the current state of greenery to the past conditions of the village, up to 30 years ago.
- Action Planning: Together with the community, we develop action plans to restore the village’s greenery, targeting areas such as roadsides, houses, vacant lands, lakes, and agricultural lands.
- Plantation Drives: With the support of the community, we organize plantation drives to increase the number of trees in the village.
- Distribution of Responsibilities: We encourage villagers and committees to take ownership by assigning tasks such as watering plants and safeguarding existing trees.
- Encouraging Krushi Aranya Schemes: We promote the implementation of schemes that integrate agriculture and forestry practices.
- Implementation of MyTree Concept: Every individual becomes a custodian of a specific number of trees, taking a pledge to protect and nurture them.
- Ongoing Follow-ups: FCDS community workers provide regular follow-ups and support to ensure the sustainability of the interventions.
Budget
For our pilot intervention, we aim to allocate up to Rs.500,000 per village. This budget allows us to plant 5,000 saplings, with each sapling costing between Rs.80 to Rs.100. It covers expenses such as sapling procurement, transportation, manure, and materials for safeguarding the trees. Manpower is expected to be contributed by the village community, school children, and volunteers.
Future plan
Once we achieve success in a model village, we plan to replicate the concept in other villages, states, and even nations. Our vision is to instill a sense of responsibility in every citizen towards the greener earth. The village community will be empowered to effectively monitor the planted saplings for three years, ensuring regular watering during the first year and watering every four days for the following two years.
Join us in Restoring Green and let’s create a sustainable future for our planet. Together, we can make a significant impact and inspire responsible behavior towards a greener earth.
